What is a cybersecurity ecosystem
Fatma Bazargan, Director, Cyber Security Business at Raytheon Emirates, is set to participate in a panel discussion during the 2020 edition of the International Exhibition for National Security and Resilience (ISNR) Abu Dhabi taking place from 17 – 19 March at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).
The panel, entitled “Enabling a Vibrant Cybersecurity Ecosystem”, will explore the need to work collectively across governments, academia, public and private sectors to address cybersecurity ecosystem skills gap. But what is a cybersecurity ecosystem? Fatma Bazargan provides some insights.
How would you define the cybersecurity ecosystem?
The cyber security ecosystem is the environment made up of many diverse contributors including governments, academia, public and private sectors, individuals, processes and internet connected devices and systems.
The cybersecurity domain is constantly evolving as threats faced by businesses and governments worldwide continue to change and become more sophisticated. Today, cyberspace has expanded to include not only the networks and systems that traditionally come to mind, but also cloud-based environments, Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices, and emerging technologies. Even specialized technologies such as medical devices, industrial control systems and satellites, to name a few, remain susceptible to breach and compromise.
What are some of the challenges or building blocks to sustaining or maturing such an ecosystem?
Cyber-attacks are becoming more sophisticated, complex and frequent in nature and malicious cyber actors are more resourceful, skilled and experienced today than ever. Every sector, be it government, industry, academia as well as the connected home user are all susceptible to malicious cyber activity.
We are constantly reminded that the cybersecurity needs of tomorrow require a proactive and collective effort today. Both the motives to launch cyber-attacks and the methodologies being deployed are becoming more complex, sophisticated and unique.
Having a secure, resilient, reliable and sustainable cyber ecosystem is key to deterring malicious cyber activity. An ecosystem that comprises of the active participation and interaction of governments, academia, public and private sectors, working together in near-real time to anticipate and prevent cyber-attacks.
Raytheon is well-positioned to see the cyber threat landscape from multiple perspectives. Our technology helps to ensure the cyber ecosystem stays ahead of the threat
