L-3 Security & Detection Systems Introduces New Ultra-Compact High-Performance PX™ 5.3 X-ray Imaging System

WOBURN, Mass., September 21, 2009 – L-3 Security & Detection Systems today introduced the new
ultra-compact, high-performance PX 5.3 X-ray inspection system at the American Society of
Industrial Security (ASIS) trade show (Booth #847) in Anaheim, Calif. The PX 5.3 offers
outstanding imaging performance where space is at a premium, scaled to fit through standard
doorways for use in checkpoints and mail rooms in schools, office buildings, courthouses,
correctional institutions and cruise ships among others. The system screens small to mediumsized
objects for multiple threats, including weapons, drugs, explosives and other contraband.
“The PX 5.3 fills a critical need in the marketplace for a compact and mobile X-ray inspection
system that is rugged, reliable and affordable and offers unparalleled imaging,” said Thomas M.
Ripp, president of L-3 Security & Detection Systems.
The PX 5.3 is the newest member of L-3’s premium line of high-throughput, fully networkable
X-ray security systems. The system offers a full complement of powerful image analysis tools
for optimum decision making. L-3’s dual-energy imaging enables both high penetration and
superior discrimination between organic and inorganic materials and metallic objects. The
PX 5.3 is also highly configurable with a full set of options and accessories to meet a wide range
of customer environments.
